It's when a longer hole, usually a par 4 or 5, starts of straight and then breaks left. The break can occur at near the beginning, middle, or end of a hole. A straight shot to the green is sometimes blocked by trees or other obstacles.

A dog leg golf hole means the hole is not straight from tee box to green but rather is shaped like a dog leg with a major bend in the middle ( left or right ) with the tee shot going to the turn and then second shot to green.

When a golf hole has a sharp turn to either the right or the left after the tee shot, it is described as a dog leg (same shape )

A dog leg is a hole that is not straight. It sometimes consists of a 45 degree angle. It is always a hole which is more than 10 degrees off a straight line. It is a curve or can also be described as an arc. These holes are generally more difficult.
