The most common mistake is comming over the top of the ball. This means releasing the club over the ball and finishing underneath your left shoulder. Another mistake is tempo. Amateurs have a tendency to have a very fast swing. The last mistake is alignment. A golfer's aim is very important.

The most common mistake amateur players make is coming over the top. Coming over the top results in a slice. The first move some amateur's make from the top of their swing is instead of dropping the club onto the ball, they come over the top of the ball. Another mistake is coming up on the ball and hitting thin.
