There really aren't "cures" for it, but cats can do very well with proper nutrition, plenty of clean water, and certain medications. My cat had overactive thyroid, and she had to take medicine each day, which we would mix with Milk that was specially made for cats, and she would drink it down nicely.

The best treatment for a cat with an overactive thyroid is medication that regulates the thyroid levels. You can also ask your vet about the best food to feed.

A cat should be fed between three and five times a day. You should also provide constantly dry food. If she does not like one type of food do not starve her, she will not eat it anyway. For example my cat does not like fish based food.

There are three typical ways to treat and overactive thyroid in cats. The first is to give your cat antithyroid medications. The thyroid gland can also be disabled with radioactive iodine treatment. Finally, the thyroid gland can be surgically removed. Depending on the severity of the case, some doctors may be able to provide alternative therapies to treat overactive thyroid.

There are three treatment methods for an overactive thryoid - antithyroid drugs (popular as non-invasive and inexpensive); surgical removal of the thyroid (removes the affected area of the thyroid gland); radioactive iodine treatment to disable the thyroid gland (a once off injection of iodine, which irradiates and destroys the part of the gland which isn't working).

The permanent cure for an overactive thyroid is radioactive therapy which is done at a vet. It is not risky but it is not a guarantee.
