The best way to start a noble fir from a seed would be to use a peat pellet. You place the seed in a peat pellit until it sprouts. Once it has sprouted and reached about three inches in height you may then transplant the seed out doors, with the seed remaining in the peat pellet.

If you collect the seeds yourself, collect from a quality tree. Trees with lots of dark green buds and good form are good prospects. Noble firs require more moisture and coolness than some. They need open sunlight and grow well on gentle slopes with northeast and eastern exposure. Good soil drainage helps prevent root rot, too.
