Question by  Rhianne (81)

What advice can you give me on getting my very first tattoo on the inside of my wrist?

I am going tomorrow to get three hearts on the inside of my wrist and would like to know what to expect.

Pain. The inside of the wrist is filled with nerve endings. And have you thought about which direction you want these hearts, for you to admire or for the person your showing to admire. Remember unless you wear long sleeves these will be for all to see all the time.

All tattoos hurt at least a little bit. The wrist shouldn't be too horribly painful though. The best advice is to find an artist whose work you like before deciding on anything else. You'll most likely have that tattoo for the rest of your life, make it a good one.

Getting a tattoo on a part of the body where the skin is thin (not fleshy like a thigh, buttocks or upper arm) and where veins are visible will be very painful. Outlining the shape of the tattoo feels like being cut with a red-hot razor. The filling in part isn't too bad. Be prepared to hurt for an hour.

The wrist is a tender area. Ask for your tattoo above the creases you get when you flex your wrist, this way it will not fade or become damaged during daily activity. Luckily three hearts will be simple and the stingy feeling accompanied by wrist tattoos will not last long!
