The Victorian home was a cluttered and almost garishly colored place. Some rooms might have been painted yellow, but they tended to favor elaborate wall papers that were patterned with bright stripes, leaves, flowers, or prints and which generally had reds, golds, greens, purples, and other bright colors interwoven in them.

Victorian living rooms were typically wallpapered in greens, pinks, reds, and purples. Brighter colours such as yellow and white were not used at all since the Victorians preferred darker colours to make their interiors more intimate and cozy.

Yes, yellow was used to brighten up a room. It was one of the most common colors used. It was usually in a medium shade not to overwhelming. Pink was also a common color.

Victorian tastes varied, much as ours do today. So there was no universally accepted colour for a living room. In general however, deep and/or rich colors including shades of gold and yellow were popular. Plain white was regarded as "unfashionable".

Yellow is not usually a color associated with Victorian living rooms. They were more likely painted in more subdued colors such as rose, gold, dusty blue, sage green or even a lavender. If you choose yellow, go for a more muted color with a warm brown base tone.

Well the Victorian's actually used a wide range of colors. They were not limited on the colors they used. While some rooms out of the ordinary may have been painted yellow, Victorians tended to use darker shades of colors such as blue or brown. Thus, yellow was not a common color.

Possibly. Victorian living rooms were painted in very pale, conservative colors. A pastel yellow may have been used, but not a bright, eye-popping yellow.

Depending on the time frame yellow was and still is a commonly used for victorian living rooms. This soft color found in nature brings life and light to the room.

No, that was not a color in the Victorian days. You can go to the paint store and they have a chart that shows colors that were used in different periods.
