Ghost Rider, the video game, is based around the 2007 film of the same name. The storyline found in the game acts as a sequel to the events seen in the film. The game was written by Jimmy Palmiotti and Garth Ennis, who both write for Marvel, the comic company from which the character of Ghost Rider originated.

Ghost Rider was orginally a comic book that was turned into a movie starring Nicolas Cage. The movie, like so many others, was franchised heavily into a line of merchandise that includes toys, apparel and, yes, a video game.

Both are based on a comic book. The video game was part of the marketing strategy for the movie, and contains many elements of the movie.

The movie Ghost Rider starring Nicholas Cage, was a huge bust at the box office, but wasn't based on a video game, but rather, a very popular comic book series. Having seen the film, I would definitely recommend not wasting your time. If you are a comic book reader, have a look though.
