There is no cure for hepatitis C. Sometimes, the body can fight off the hepatitis C infection, but the majority of people with hepatitis C have a long-term liver infection. There are medications to treat it, though. The treatment is successful if the hepatitis c is not detected 6 months after treatment has ended.

The standard treatment for a confirmed case of hepatitis C with confirmed liver dysfunction, , includes a many week course of pegylated interferon-alpha and the antiviral ribavirin. The treatment for Hepatitis C is an antiviral drug. You will need to go to a doctor or health clinic to be properly diagnosed and then get a prescription for the medication. In the meanwhile, it is important to avoid further damage to your liver: avoid alcohol and medications that may cause liver damage.

The current treatment for HCV combines interferon and some form of ribavirin, commonly referred to as "the combo." This has 50% success of rendering the HCV undetectable. A treatment which adds a protease inhibitor is more effective and will be available sometime in 2011 Treatments are prescribed by a doctor.
