Somebody keyed my car. What should I do?

Most likely you won't be able to file a claim with your insurance because of the deductible. But you should still file a police report and keep it in your files. Unless you have proof it will be hard to for you to get the guilty party to come forward. Just fix it and get on with it

You should not touch anything to start off with. You need to contact the police immediately. The keying of a car is a serious felony. The police can track down whoever did it, in a hear-beat.

Unless you have a good amount of automotive paint knowledge then just take it to a shop and have them repair it. It will require some painting as well as sanding and polishing. It is something you can do yourself if you have the proper tools and knowledge so check online on how to repair scratches at home.

Report it to the police first. Then once you have a police report, turn around and report it to your insurance agency. With a police report, if you have full coverage, Insurance should pay for a new paint job for your car. This is with a full coverage policy only.
