Should you remove your piercings if you are going to have oral surgery?

I have several piercings, in my nose and one on my lips, I will be having oral surgery in three weeks and do not want to remove them.

If x-rays have not yet been done, they will be, which will require the removal of any and all metal in your face and head. Whether you can keep the piercings in place during surgery depends on a number of factors. Rely on your oral surgeon to advise you as to what is best.

Yes all the piercings should be removed while going for oral surgery. It is advisable not to put any type of metals in the body while going for any type of surgery. So doctors advise all patients to remove everything before surgery. It is always advisable to listen to the physician.

I am almost positive you will be required to remove them for any surgery. I have had surgery and procedures, and had to remove all jewelry and my glasses.

Your oral surgeon will recommend that you remove the lip piercing most certainly and possibly the nose as well. These piercings can obscure the field and make surgery difficult.
