guinea pigs

Question by  Marissa87 (15)

Should my guinea pigs feel hot?

Answer by  Mumma (483)

No, they should not. This could be a fever or some other kind of illness. Take your pig to a vet who specialises in rodents especially if there are other signs of illness (not eating, dull eyes/fur, hunching in corner of the cage, weird poo/pee). Check the temperature in your home - it should be between 70 and 80 degrees.

If your pig feels hot, it could be a fever. Take your pig to a qualified exotics vet for a check up as this is serious. Also check the temperature in your home - guinea pigs thrive between 70 and 80 degrees fahrenheit. Ears are a good indicator of temperature.

Guinea pigs should feel warm but not hot. If they feel hot, check their water supply and room temperature. Keep an eye out for signs of sickness.

Yes, because it is warm-blooded. However, if your Guinea Pig feels warmer than usual or exhibits other symptoms of illness you should take it to a veterinarian.
