Should I install a granite or a tile backsplash in my kitchen?

Granite costs too much to waste on a backsplash -- and can stain if grease is left on too long. Choose tile, which is cheaper and easier to clean. Plus, if you chip a granite backsplash, you have to replace the whole section; tile is replaced one piece at a time.

IT really depends on what you have for your counter tops. I prefer tile backsplash to compliment my granite. Layering of textures will bring more personality to your kitchen and allow you more design freedom.

If price is a factor, tile is less expensive. Granite provides a strong visual impact when used full height to your cabinets. You could consider a mixture- using granite behind your stove or other high visual area and tile as a filler for the rest of the kitchen.

I would recommend installing granite rather than a tile backsplash for ease of cleaning. No grout lines with granite, thus you will have more time to do other things.
