Should I get a dark carpet?

Going extreme in either way is going to show lots of everything. White carpet shows absolutely everything on the floor, black (or any very dark color) also shows everything like lint and such. Find something with a variable pattern to distract the eye from soiling.

It doesn't really go with everything in terms of design. And plus you never know when it's going to get dirty. You won't be able to see all the stains in the carpet. I'd prefer to get lighter carpet though. And if you can eliminate carpet that's even better. Try hardwood.
