Question by  William (26)

Should I be concerned about green watery stool from a breastfed 6 week old baby?

The green is from the intestines and means it is passing through the body quickly. The green isn't dangerous, but a baby can dehydrate very quickly. Any creature that lives off of liquid will have loose stools, but do make sure the baby isn't becoming dehydrated.

I am a nurse and a mom of 3 kids, all breastfed and that is totally normal. Looks like algae, but is fine and common.

If it only happened once I wouldn't worry about it, but if it is a consistent problem then you should make an appointment with the pediatrician. The baby is old enough that it should be pooping solid by now.

Absolutely, any time your child exhibits any symptoms which cause alarm you should immediately consult a professional who will be able to evaluate the situation with an unbiased and professional perspective.
