On the train I like to work on my laptop, but I can't always get a seat with a table. Can anyone suggest a solution?

You could try a lap desk, or net book. A smart phone would allow you to use the internet and office programs.

You can purchase a pillow backed lap desk. These come in different sizes and shapes and sits a laptop fairly comfortably. It will not sit the laptop as high as a table will, but works great and is mobile. Some will fit into the laptop bag and others can be attached to it.
