Question by  RandyAlstone (27)

On a Subaru Forester, what is the best scan tool to use?

Answer by  worker3294 (236)

There are several scan tools available, and you really get what you pay for with them. Autozone will read your codes for free, and that is really the best way.

Any ODB scan tool will do fine from 1997 and up. Once you get the codes you can look them up online or call the Subaru dealer for a list of them.

Pretty much all scan tools are the same. Look for one that is made by a name brand and looks like it is well made. A larger display also is a good to have. One that has the ability to be update software will help for scanning future models.

The snap-on scrolling model with the foreign vehicle plug and chip will give you the most accurate and descriptive engine codes. I highly reccomend it!

you need to find somebody that has a name brand scanner. alot of the scanners on the market may not have all the current updates. also they may not cover your year model.
