Consult your vet immediately. It could be anything, a bite from a spider, snake, or bug. Or maybe it got cut open and is starting to infect. Could just be from walking on hot ground too much. But don't take the chance, it's not worth the risk. see your vet.

The dog may have stepped on something sharp, like a thorn. Maybe the vet should take a look because it could easily become infected because the dog walks in dirt.

Determine if your dog has come into contact with anything new such as a new cleaners that could have caused an allergy to develop. Use vinegar and water as your main cleaner and if your pet doesn't improve within a few days please have him looked at by your vet.

I would observe the sores for a few days--if there is any pus or bleeding consult your veterinarian right away.
