A common cause of a burning sensation would be the development of a thrush infection. Check your baby's mouth for white patches on the moist soft insides of his cheeks and lips. Are your nipples red, cracking or flaky? Try more often in shorter more frequent sessions and allow your nipples to air dry. If symptoms continue, see your docotr.

Your breast may have a yeast infection. Check your baby's mouth to see if it is white inside or go to a pediatrician. If it is not yeast infection, and you had stop breastfeeding altogether, your breast will be full of milk and it hurts if it doesn't come out.

It sounds like you might have an infection, such as mastitis, especially if you have a fever or other signs of illness. See your doctor, antibiotics can clear up any infection quickly.
