The blood type problems that you hear about don't have anything to do with ABO blood type; they are instead related to the Rhesus factor. If you are Rh- and your son is Rh+, during pregnancy potentially deadly complications can result. Doctors can give you antibodies during pregnancy to prevent these complications.

This causes the risk of your body rejecting the child, due to the differing Rhesus factor. Rh immunoglobulin (RhIg) may be given by your doctor to prevent problems with either this pregnancy or future ones.
