Shortness of breath can be a symptom of TMJ, as well as impaired balance, fatigue and headaches. TMJ is itself commonly a symptom of another disorder, so see a doctor.

If there is a connection, we didn't discuss it in med school. A problem with the temporomandibular joint should not impede breathing in any way.

TMJ most commonly refers to temporo-mandibular joint, which is a joint right in front of the ear, between the jaw bone and the skull. Shortness of breath is due to severe allergies, serious lung or heart diseases and there is no condition of TMJ which will lead to shortness of breath.

Unfortunately, TMJ is one of the most misunderstood and misdiagnosed conditions known. I have TMJ and have done some research on it, and I don't recall ever encountering shortness of breath as a symptom. You shortness of breath could be anxiety related; they are found together often.
