It is a common experience for menstral cycles to be irregular when discontinuing a hormonal method of birth control. Hormonal birth control mimics pregnancy hormones in the body, so it follows that with the cessation of these hormones the body sometimes delays menstration or cycles irregularly just as after a pregnancy.

If you have recently stopped taking the birth control, your menstrual cycle may be irregular for awhile as your body readjusts to not having the artificial hormones. This is normal, but if it does not regulate within a few months, you should see your doctor in case something else is going on.

Yes, stopping with the pill can alter the frequency or duration of your period. No need to worry if you go from say, a 31d cycle to a 28d one.

Yes and no. If you are having frequent periods, like more than once a month, you may be having trouble ovulating. When you are on the pill, you are hormonally regulating. So sometimes problems ovulating are masked by the pill. If your periods continue to be frequent, I would contact your GYN.

A question of this kind is best answered by a licensed medical practioner, specifically, your gynocologist or perhaps even a pharmacist. However, it is true that certain birth control pills do have an effect on menstral cycles. Therefore, in the absence of the drug, the woman could return to her previous, more regular cylce.
