Is the U.S. a republic?

By definition I think it is, but the name doesn't say so.

A significant number of people seem to believe that the United States is a democracy but they are incorrect. In a democracy, the people decide everything and the government is accountable to them. The United States is a republic, because instead of the people deciding policy, we elect representatives to do that on our behalf.

Yes, the United States is a republic. Our country is not governed by a monarchy and our president is elected. The people have some influence on the governments and the decisions that are made. We also have a republic government within each state in which the people determine which officials are chosen.
