Nicotine (tobacco) has been shown to have a strong link to the development of cancer. It increases the level of LDL fats (bad fats) in your body which is related to increased risk of heart attacks and strokes. Nicotine also blocks the release of insulin-leading to hyperglycemia. It raises your blood pressure and is a stimulant.

Nicotine is not a physically harmful chemical, though it is physiologically addictive. Despite misconceptions, it's the other 4000 plus chemicals in cigarettes that are deadly, not nicotine.

Nicotine is a very addictive substance. Once addicted, it is extremely hard to stop whatever habit is associated with this drug, even when made aware of the dangers. Interestingly, a single drop of nicotine, ingested in it's pure form, can kill. Simply put, avoid nicotine.
