safety  wine

Question by  schaefnutz (63)

Is leaving wine out a health hazard?

If so, how long is it safe to leave out?

Answer by  rot (91)

There are no known pathogens that can survive in alcohol levels as high as those in wine. The only risk is that the wine may not taste good.

It's safe to leave an opened bottle of wine out for several hours, but any wine leftover should be refrigerated and used within a few days for best results. The longer that it is left open, the worse it will taste. Leftover wine is good for cooking, you can marinade meats with it or add it to soups and sauces.

Wine degrades very fast in an open bottle. There is more than just grapes in a bottle of wine. The sulfur for one is not good for you if begins to age.
