Is it safe to release turtles back to the wild?

I purchased the turtle from a pet shop and no longer want it.

I have heard of such cases, and the local pond with enough fish and plants to feed on can be wilderness enough. But snapping turtles have been known to attack ducks etc, so ensure your turtle doesnt become a hazard. putting up your turtle for adoption could be another option

No. Domestic turtles are missing the skills and built up immune system to survive in the wild. Look up your local reptile rescue organization near you or the local ASPCA.
