Allegra and Lexapro are generics of the same medicationn called Fexofenadine. Absolutely do not take both which could have dire consequences such as drug overdose.

Wrong! They most certainly are not the same chemical Allegra is Fexofenadine and Lexapro is Escitalopram Oxalate.  add a comment

No, Lexapro is not Fexofenadine, it's Escitalopram. Lexapro is an SSRI and Allegra is an antihistamine. You definitely cannot overdose from taking both, but it is still possible for them to negatively interact with each other.  add a comment

Allegra is an anti-histamine that affects the body's ability to produce histamine in reaction to perceived threats. Lexapro is an SSRI that reduces depression by preventing the removal of serotonin from the nervous system once it has been released. One works with the immune system, the other with the sympathetic nervous system. Unless advised against it, you should be fine.

There are two very reliable sources you should consult when you have a question about mixing drugs. One is your doctor, the other your pharmacist. Both have a wealth of information and both should know your medical history. Allegra is an antihistamine used for treatment of allergies. Lexapro is an antidepressant/antianxiety drug. Taking them together should cause no problems.

While it probably safe, you should always make sure that all of your physicians are aware of all your medications. Check with your doctor or pharmacist before mixing meds.

There should not be a problem with mixing the two. Allegra is an antihistamine and Lexapro is an SSRI. I often take antihistamines for allergies and I've been on an SSRI for years. If you are unsure though, the best way to make sure you are safe is to call your Doctor and double check.

It is safe to take both medications together. But it should only be taken with a doctor's authorization. There are no indications that it is unsafe, according to pharmacists.

Both Allegra and Lexapro are metabolized by the Liver enzyme Cytochrome p450 subtype CYP3A4. Concurrent administration may, therefore, cause prolonged elevations of both drugs. Please consult your doctor.
