It is possible to overcharge batteries. This usually happens when using generic or non-brand chargers, as well as a charger with a different brand or voltage than that of the batteries'. Brand chargers are designed to sense when the batteries are fully loaded and then switch to a "trickle charge" to keep the batteries' load.

Depending on the device you are charging, it is possible to overcharge, but not very likely. most electronics today have built in circuits to prevent this. Consult the devices user manual for any warnings, and for older devices, allow the battery to fully discharge before recharging to maintain battery life.
