Is it possible the New Madrid fault will produce an earthquake any time soon?

Will that affect insurance rates?

It is assumed that sometime in the near future the New Madrid fault will produce a large earthquake. As far as insurance, most home insurance policies do not cover earthquake damage in earthquake zones so this possibility may make it impossible to get earthquake coverage.

While no one can predict with absolute 100% certainty when and where a particular fault line will experience an earth quake, major fault lines do have a higher than normal probability of experiencing them. Insurance rates are negatively affected in areas that are traditional prone to natural disasters like earthquakes.
