Question by  Elle (648)

Is it okay to freeze apples for baking later?

I do it with bananas all the time, but I'm not sure about freezing apples for an apple pie.

Yes it is ok as long as they are good baking apples.. Just slice the apples, add sweetner and spices and form the apples to fit your pie pan. Wrap tightly in aluminum foil and then store in freezer bags. You can also can apple slices in light syrup just like you would peaches or pears.

Yes. First wash the apples. Peel the skins off, core and slice them. It should be okay to freeze them in an air tight container for up to 6 months or so. I've done it before and it worked fine. If you are going to use them in a dough, like muffins or cakes, then grate them before freezing.

We've done this the last couple of years after our neighbors gave us some surplus apples. I just used some freezer bags, freezer paper might work better.
