Is it okay if my picture hooks don't line up with the wall studs?

You can use molly bolts or anchors if the area you want to hang your pictures does not have a stud. If your picture is wide enough, you can use two picture hooks, with one of them in a stud for additional support. Another option is Hercules Hooks that you push through drywall and they catch the back of drywall.

It all depends upon how heavy your pictures are. If you do not drive your picture hooks into a stud, only drywall will be holding them up. You should use drywall anchors and screws for this. Even with that, there are some weight limits. For most pictures, if you use an anchor, it should be fine.

It is okay if you have not hung something very heavy, such as a mirror or very large, heavy piece of art. Make sure to use a hook large enough for the weight of the picture, and a nail that is proportional to the hook. To hang something heavy, using anchors in the wall if you cannot use a stud.

It depends on the weight of the picture. Heavier pictures really should be in the studs. If that's not possible, you can get wall anchors that will provide more support than just screwing into the wall.
