Question by  krismomma (20)

Is it hard to make a quilt using quilting fabric panels?

I have never made a quilt before and I thought panels might be a good way to start.

If you are just using fabric squares it should be fairly easy if the squares are all the same size. If you cut them yourself make sure they are uniform or can be placed together with out having odd gaps..

Using quilted fabric panels are a great way to make a and easy quilt. You don't have to piece numerous pieces of fabric together because the printing on the panel looks like it has already been pieced. Just layer your quilt with a backing material, then some batting and put your panel on top. Secure layers with Quilt Basting Spray.

Panels are a time saver because no piecing is involved. Sandwich the panel and backing with some batting in the middle. Secure the sandwich with safety pins about every four inches or so. Quilt along the panel's design lines in a matching thread and add a binding.

If you are handy with a sewing machine and can sew straight, the fabric panels (or fat quarters) are a great way to start. Pin the pieces together, wrong sides together, then stitch up the side. And, repeat.

Panels could be a really great way to make your first quilt. Since everything is already cut out for you it helps you focus on learning to quilt.
