Is it better to have a monthly cell phone contract or a pay as you go plan?

This is really dependent on how often you use your phone. You should evaluate the minutes you currently use to see if a pay as you go plan makes more sense. If you do not use your phone very much, this could be the case. Remember, many pay as you go plans do not charge monthly maintenance fees.

If you have a landline or another phone for primary use, and will use the cell phone occasionally, a prepaid phone might be your best bet. If the cell phone will be you primary or your only phone, you should opt for a contract, because you'll end up paying more over time with a pay-as-you-go plan.

I think it really depends on your situation. Some contracts are very hard to get out of and you don't know how much your bill will be each month if you get charged roaming fees and things with a pay as you go you can control more closely how often you use the phone and know the bill amount.

A monthly contract is alright if you have a permanent job, travel and use the phone a lot. If you are unemployed then a pay as you go has to be sufficient. Young people like to be out with their friends and mingling anyway it is natural. Both plans are alright the contract can be costly.

It really depends on how much you talk or text. If you call people often and text often a contract is better for you. If you only make 1 or 2 calls a day, pay as you go plan is perfect, why be paying to use your phone when you arent using it.
