Is it a good idea to use a blow dryer to thaw ice around my air conditioner?

Answer by  Ashes (9)

Yes, the air conditioner will generate hot air that will thaw the air conditioner much faster than simply waiting for it to thaw naturally. The hot air causes no harm to yourself when you use it on your hair and certainly will pose no danger to an air conditioner largely made of metal

Never use a blow dryer to thaw ice from an electrical appliance: this is a serious electrical threat! Instead, unplug the unit or turn down the temperature and it will thaw automatically Also note the position of the unit. If it is not properly balanced, improper air flow could be causing the ice to form.

To be honest NO! it will melt the ice but the air conditioner will work 20 time's harder to cool the area and Create more condensation and a faster freezing-up.

Even though may work,It's probaly not a good idea.I may melt the ice on the surface, but the entire copper line is frozen, from the outside to the inside. The only thing that will really fix that problem is time!Turn the unit off,and just wait. The inside unit can be turned on in the fan mode to help it along but,it's still time.

I don't know if its a good idea or not but I use to use a blow dryer to defrost my freezer all the time so I say go for it it will work.

most ac are equipped with a fan mode. I suggest using that to thaw the ice instead of blow drying. You will find that it actually thaws quicker this way rather than using a blow dryer because the insides will thaw as well

If the water is not drained properly ice will start forming in the cold coil, so thaw ice to work your ac properly.
