Is excessive punishment common in china?

If so can I have an example of some off the punishment they use?

China's laws allow for execution of drug dealers and distributors, while other nations only imprison for several years. Promoting democracy or challenging family planning laws by having a second child will get you a jail term for several years, where these activities are free in other countries.
