Is an unsigned judge's order actually valid?

I have a judges order that states I can not go within a certain distance of my ex but it was never signed, can you tell me if it is effective.

It sounds like what you have is a request for an Emergency Protective Order (EPO)or restraining order and that it has not yet been heard by a judge. You are named so you got a copy of it. Until it is heard by the judge and signed, it is not in effect unless you agree to it.

No it is not. The order must be signed by the judge to be in effect. But copy of the minutes from the order are legal.

You might make the legal argument that it is not effective because it was not signed, but I do not recommend it. You better comply with the restraining order to keep yourself out of trouble. The judge would probably rule your argument as an irrelevant technicality and find you in contempt.
