Vito will get him started but if they like playing, it will begin to hold them back, like a NASCAR driver would be held back by a 60's VW Bug. Find a good, used wood Yamaha or Buffet clarinet in a pawn shop and get it serviced; much better investment.

Yes, a Vito clarinet is a standard beginner school band clarinet. If you buy a new one, you should be able to resell it later if your son does not stick with it, or if he does and moves up to a more professional model. Another idea would be to get a used one on eBay for under $100.

You should consider purchasing a clarinet that is wood for concert season and plastic for marching season, depending on what your son will be doing. If he will be participating in both seasons then a plastic one would be the best choice, preferably a Vito, Noblet, or Artley.

Vito is perfect for a beginner. If you rent, the chances of it being a Vito clarinet are very high. Go for a wooden clarinet if he really sticks with it, otherwise you'll waste your money.

A Vito clarinet is a good choice for a beginner because they are reasonably priced and can be found used in great condition. Vito's usually don't have tuning or function problems and it is a good started in case the student changes their mind about playing. That way you have not spent a fortune on a nicer brand.

Vito makes a good clarinet, Typically, they are better than student models but not as expensive as the top of the line pro models, so it is good because once he becomes proficient, he will still be able to use it.
