Yes, it can blend hard stuff because it has tough blades which are strong and fast enough to blend hard stuff like seeds.

I love my vitamix blender, I make smoothies in it every morning. It chops and purees the fruit and ice with absolutely no problem. My old blender burnt out from doing this, it had always made a motor like smell that emitted from it but my vitamix one has never done that.
