Is a GE electric kettle a fire hazard?

They won't allow them in the dorm room.

If left unattended it can be a fire hazard. It can overflow and cause fire if left unattended for a decent amount of time.

I've been using this product for last 6 months and did not come across any hazardous issues.It just uses electricity.I conclude that it is not a fire hazard.
