If you have a clear pot can you see roots?

You might be able to, but only if the roots are right on the surface of the pot. This would typically occur when the plant has outgrown its pot size which results in the roots of the plants growing very close to the pot's inner surface.

If you have a clear pot it will depend on how large the pot and plant is. If anything you will see the roots at the bottom near the bottom.

With time, yes you should be able to see the roots. You might try a potato with the eye showing. They grow quickly above and below the ground. If you use a large jar be sure to put some pebbles in the bottom for drainage. You could also take the kids to a garden center.

You will only be able to see the roots if they are growing towards the outsides of the soil in the pot otherwise they will be hidden by the soil.
