No, a phalaenopsis will survive reasonable pruning. While your flower may appear to be dead, it will in fact grow back after a while. It may grow back differently and there may be scarring, but the flower will grow back as long as it is cared for, i. e. watered, etc.

Phalaenopsis should only be pruned to remove a faded flower spike. This will also encourage further blooming. Simply cut the flower back to the base of the plant.

There are many opinions about cutting of the phalaenopsis when it has finished blooming some species should not be cut,they say the plant derives its energy from the bloom
