If I stop paying on an unsecured credit card debt what can they take from me?

I am in a position that I have to make a choice to pay either credit card bills or feed my kids.

Nothing can really happen. If you have been paying on time up untill now, then you should be given a bit of a grace period. If even after the grace period you still haven't paid the bill, you will start receiving calls and letters from the company trying to help you. After that it goes to collections.

Eventually, they will sue you and obtain a judgment. Once this happens, they can seize any of your assets; they can also garnish your wages. It will also destroy your credit rating. If you are in financial trouble, you are probably better off contacting the creditor and asking for help.

Collection efforts will continue. The collector may opt to file a claim and could get a judgment against you which would allow the attachment of your wages and/or your bank accounts. If you are sued, you will have the opportunity to state your case to the judge, who may not allow a judgment to be filed against you.

They can't take anything but they can sue you in court. Call and make payment arrangments instead and stick to it.
