If I am just getting over a bad case of strep throat, can I get my tongue pierced safely, without complications?

I would wait until you feel 100%, any more stress on your body, combined with an open wound in your mouth could either bring back the strep, or cause the piercing to become infected

A tongue piercing is always a breeding ground for bacteria, even when cared for properly. Its an even worse idea than usual to get it pierced when you are sick.

You may actually be better off, if you are taking antibiotics for the strep throat as this will help fight any bateria infections that might occur. If you are more than three days in the strep throat is no longer contageous.

I'd wait. Anytime you open up a hole in skin (including the surface of your tongue) where there isn't normally a hole, there's a chance of infection. Who wants a swollen tongue? What's your hurry? Wait a week and you'll avoid a really unnecessary risk.
