This sounds like a problem that is likely related to the lungs. Pluracy, pneumonia, or other inflammation of the lung may cause stining, burning, or stabbing pains in the rib cage. This can occur in the back or front side of the rib cage. You may want to visit your physician, especially if you have any other symptoms.

It is possible that the pain you are experiencing could relate to problems with your gall bladder. However, this depends on how long the stinging pains are lasting. Are you having any other symptoms? If you are becoming increasingly concerned, the best advice would be to visit your GP for an examination and professional advice.

A sting in your back at your upper right ribs can may be due most commonly to a pulled intercostal muscle. This sort of pain tends to get worse with breathing. If the pain is not related to your breaths, you should see a physician as soon as you can.
