If you want the ensure the survival of most or all of the fry, separate them from other fish. Feed your platy fry the same food you feed the adults, but crush the food to make the pieces small enough for them to eat. Platy fry do not require a tank filter until nearly grown.

We put our fry in the net homes that they sell at petstores. The sit at the top of the tank, but still in the water and protected from the other fish. The petstore sells fry food which we used and had alot of success. Once the fish are big enough you can put them in the community tank.

With platy fry, you must be careful because the parents may decide to eat their own fry. If you can, remove the fry to a separate tank. Feed them baby brine shrimp or other small food. There are several commercial options available like "first bites. " Keep the tank clean and not too much flow.

Purchase a sponge filter. Do small frequent partial water changes, being careful not to suck any of the babies up in the siphon. Feed crushed flake food, once a day.
