My home state of Virginia officially recommends every two to three years. You should not exceed 5 years at most. An ounce of prevention can be worth several thousand dollars.

Place a long stick into the septic through the top access hole. Mark the height. pull out the stick. if the level is within 4" of the top, it needs pumped. check monthly, then longer until you find the cycle that it needs to be pumped out.

I have had a septic tank for 21 years. I've never had to have it pumped. I'm careful about not putting grease, etc. down the garbage disposal. However, I live alone. For a family of 4 or so people, once every 5 years should be adequate.

if u were to pump it it would take a while around every 5-10 years because of the fact that the bacteria in the tank will consume most of the byproducts that will be in the system and the liquids will go into the leaching field.

There is no reason for a septic tank to be pumped if installed properly and treated properly. the leech feild gets rid of excess water and the matter should degrade away to water, Rid-X works great

If it's working right, every 15 years or more. Pumping it kills the bacteria, so be sure to infuse it again if you do pump.
