1 cord is equal to 128 cubic feet, 1,536 board feet, or a rectangular stack of wood 4 feet wide, 4 feet tall and 8 feet long.

When wood is neatly stacked so that the stack is 4 feet by 4 feet by 8 feet, then you have a cord of wood. That is 128 cubic feet of wood. That's about 3 full sized pickup beds of wood.

A cord is 128 cubic feet in volume. Firewood is usually sold in fractions of a cord with length of pieces cut to suit the purpose for the wood.

A cord of wood is technically 4 feet by 4 feet by 8 feet, however nobody burns 4 foot logs so wood is often sold in third cords which are 18 inch by 4 feet by 8 feet. Note that furnace, face and stove cords are other measurements
