How much cholesterol is too much?

I recently had my cholesterol tested and they said I was borderline for having high cholesterol.

Blood cholesterol level should be kept under 200 mg/dL. Borderline values go from 200 to 240 mg/dL; level higher than 240 mg/dL shows a high risk for heart and vascular diseases.

A desirable cholesterol reading is below 200. However, the overall number is not as important as the LDL reading which is the bad cholesterol or the HDL or good cholesterol. Ask your doctor questions regarding the meanings of these readings. Don't just accept the "borderline" label without details.

Two hundred is about normal for most Americans. When cholesterol hits about 240 most doctors start getting worried. At 240+ most doctors start prescribing cholesterol lowering medications. Weight loss, diet and exercise can help control cholesterol some. But that may not be enough.

To much cholesterol would have a cholesterol level of 240 mg/dL or higher. A person (like yourself) that is borderline cholesterol has a cholesterol level of 200–239 mg/dL. The normal persons hould have a cholesterol level of about 200mg/dL. You get high cholesterol can be from smoking, obesity, poor diet, and high blood pressure.

LDL is the "bad" cholesterol that is of concern but "cholesterol" levels are lumped together in the initial bloodtest. "Borderline - High Risk" falls into the 200-239 mg/dL. Your doctor should break it down and evaluate the ratio of LDL (bad) to the HDL (good). They may balance one another.

They say anything above 200 hundred is to high but every doctor will tell you something slightly different and I also know that every person has there own level and some people are always a little high and some are always a little low.

Normal values are; Triglycerides-lessthan150mg/dl, Totalcholesterol-lessthan 200mg/dl, HDL cholesterol-morethan40mg/dl, LDL cholesterol-lessthan 100mg/dl and VLDL cholesterol-lessthan 40mg/dl. Try maintain values below. Control food and do exercises and test Lipid profile and see.
