How much can a 12 year old bench press?

What is possible? My son is very interested in weight lifting and strength conditioning.

I'm 12 years old. I weigh 85 lbs and max 95-100 lbs. But HIS bench depends on his size. A healthy person should bench their own body weight, but probably not from the start unless he's just naturally strong. He should bench 60 lbs at least, unless he's naturally weak.

Why "suReeeeee......."? I started lifting 5th grade, 11, maxed 80 but never seriously worked out. I got serious around November/December. I'm going into 7th grade (12), I max 95-100. I do 95 2, maybe 3 times. But 100 is hard. I am a wrestler 2, weigh in at 84.5 lbs.  add a comment

A 12 year old should not bench his own body weight!!
Naturally weak kids should not get near a bench.
Unless their lean and muscular kids  add a comment

That's actually a better guess, I said sixty in the above but a lot of my friends can't get that or sixty-five... Forty is good. Chacha said 50 lbs. I think, but 40-45 sounds good to me... Not a lot of 12 year olds lift though, 40 is good :)  add a comment

It really depends on the size of the 12-year-old. He'll need to build up to what he can do. Get a trainer.

yes thats what he should do if he goes to at least a pretty rich school like mine our town name is PROSPER  add a comment

If he has never worked out before, he should not be able to bench press his own body weight unless he's very active. Once he works out for awhile, twice his body weight is certainly within reason though it will take quite some time to reach that goal. A basic 110 lb. weight set should work for now.

I'm 13.5 and I max 140-145. I only weigh 97.5, so that's exceptionally strong. I do MMA and wrestle though. Most I benched at 12 was 120-125, but it depends on size and natural strength. Probably 80-90 lbs is good. But I've had friends that can't put up 65 haha.

My son never works out with weights just with his is body weight. I put him on the Bench yesterday just to see what he could lift. He is 86 pounds and was able to bench 95 pounds. From reading this web page that’s good.

People are probably tired of me posting/bragging, which is not my intentions, but I'm still 12, basically 13, because my b-day is in only three months. I weigh 87 pounds, & I just maxed a 110 bench press at 4:19 today... But again,I'm really strong for my age and weight.

Im 12 and i just started since 10 summer, im 110lbs and i can bench my own weight but only one time. So you should at least be able to bench your own weight once but do 3reps of 10 with 30-40lbs less than your weight with sort of easy.

thx for the tip know i dont feel that bad since i bench 30lbs less than my weight but i cant bench my own weight(105lbs) yet.  add a comment

I've posted three times. Still 12 (Born 98), weighed 87 lbs fully dressed today, maxed 105. Not lying... I threw it up for 1 rep. I'm hoping for 110 soon, 120 before leaving 7th grade, maybe 130 by 8th grade's start. I've gained 10 lbs. in just under 2 weeks.

The amount that your son can bench press depends entirely on his size, strength and knowledge of the proper methods. His age has very little to do with it.

13 year olds who can't bench their weight should just get up to 100 pushups than start adding rice bags on their back when they do it. If you weigh 120 pounds and can't bench 70 pounds you shouldn't even consider benching. Pushups push about 60-75 percent of body weight.

I'm 12 and I can bench about 125. I just started lifting this year so it depends on the experience and the weight of the person.
