All upper molars have 3 roots while lower molars have 2 roots. All premolars along with the other teeth have 1 root. Tooth number 5 is a premolar and has 1 root. Also if it is hurting while eating then you need to get the height of the crown increased.

Each and every tooth that you have is different. Usually your maxillary teeth, tooth number five, has two roots. Sometimes there is more or less depending on how your facial structure and bone structure grew when you were in your mothers stomach. There could be a chance that there is only one root.
