How many events are in the Olympics?

In the upcoming winter olympics in 2010, there are going to be eighty six winter sports events. Some of the events include: Ice Hockey, ski jumping, cross country skiing, and bobsled events. In the summer olympics there are currently 43 different sports. Some of the sports include: Baseball, basketball, archery, volleyball, and cycling.

There are approximately 300 events in the Olympics. This includes both the summer and winter Olympics, and some events are counted twice, as they are separated into male and female events (like Ice Hockey). Also the events at each Olympics can change, based on the desire of the host city.

There were 302 medal events in the 2008 Summer Olympics (in Beijing) and there were 84 medal events in the 2006 Winter Olympics (in Torino). There will be 300 medal events in the 2010 Summer Olympics (in London) and there will be 86 medal events in the 2010 Winter Olympics (in Vancouver).

According to the IOC there are 28 fully recognised sports: Volleyball, tennis,table tennis, weightlifting, Wrestling, boxing, basketball, baseball, gymnastics, handball, hockey, judo, shooting, softball, athletics, cycling, football, taekwondo, Canoe / kayak, ,

There are a total of 388 combined events between the Summer and Winter Olympics. In the Winter Olympics there are a total of 86 events which slims in comparison to the 302 events that are participated in during the Summer Olympics.
